Here’s our list of must-have dog products, based on our own personal and professional experience. With these items on hand, you’ll be fully prepared for anything dog ownership throws at you, so you can relax and enjoy every moment with your new pooch.
Kuranda Dog Beds
We have found these to be the absolute best! They are pretty much indestructible for puppies and mouthy dog breeds! They are orthopedic, chew-proof, and easy to clean. We use the all-aluminum model out here at CVC.
Kong Toys
These range in sizes from little bitty to extra large. The irregular bounce makes it more fun for dogs and you can also put treats or peanut butter in the hollow middle which can keep your dog busy for longer amounts of time.
Nylabones
This is another wonderful fairly indestructible chew toy with bones tailored to every size and stage! From the teething puppy to the extreme chewer!
It is so important that you are careful with what toys your dog has access to. Plush toys and stuffed animals can be chewed up and lodge in the dog’s intestines causing blockage - that can result in expensive and risky surgery and death.
Dog Crate
This is the crate the airlines recommend and so do we. Buy the size you’ll need for your puppy when he is fully grown. During housebreaking, you may need a little more paper to cover the bottom of the crate, but that is more cost-effective than buying different sized crates.
Stain Remover
Feces, diarrhea, dirt, vomit, blood, grass, ‘pet sweat’, wine and coffee? Yep, we got those... We have tried virtually every stain remover out there and this is my favorite!
Urine Eliminator
Though the Oxy Shot will definitely work on urine, I keep this on hand as well - for that extra boost. Removes old and new urine stains and as you can imagine, we are familiar with those!
Nylon Leash and Collar
Flat Nylon Collar - These are easy, inexpensive and have some adjustment. They have different sizes and the X-Small works for medium and large breed puppies.
4’ - 6’ Nylon Leash - This is pretty much the standard size for dog walking and while the longer line is good for teaching recall, this is just much easier to use. We do not recommend retractable models as they limit control and it is easy for the dogs to get tangled in retractable models as they limit control and it is easy for the dogs to get tangled in them!
