Dave Taylor Biography

Dave has been breeding and training dogs for over 40 years. He started as a hobby trainer in High School and continued through his years at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, starting his own in-home training business in the late 1970’s.

    As owner of Cedar Valley Canine since 1993, Dave has been involved in basically every aspect of  the working dog world including:

  • importing, selection, sales and training of Working Dogs

  • Police K-9 Patrol Dogs/Military Service Dogs

  • Detection Dogs ( narcotics and explosives )

  • Personal Protection Dogs

  • Commercial Security

  • Training Director of Middle Tennessee Working Dog Association

  • Continued Breeding Program

 From 2010 to 2013 Dave was also a Training Director at The Auburn University Canine Detection Training Center ( AUCDTC ) where he was a level IV Instructor/Trainer. His job there included:


  • Team Leader Pre-Training EDD/Vapor Wake Dogs- IED Canines

  • Instructor Development Training

  • Handler Training:

               * TSA, EDD/Vapor Wake Classes Lead Instructor 2012

               * AmTrak EDD/Vapor Wake Instructor 2011

               * Dept of Naval Warfare Canine Operations

  • Evaluator

               * NexCE Project, IED Class 2011

               * TSA EDD/Vapor Wake Class 2011, 2012

  • Certification: EDD/Vapor Wake, AmTrak Police, Federal Protective Service, LAPD, Arlington Fire Dept, MARTA Police

  • Procurement/Canine Evaluation

                * Testing/Selection of Canines for AUCDTC Service Program


   Dave has numerous accomplishments and memberships. He has been a member of United Schutzhund Clubs of America since 1997 and is currently a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America ( GSDCA )

He is also an eight time competitor in Schutzhund/IPO III, ADPDA National Championships with five different dogs, twenty-plus time Protection Decoy for Schutzhund/IPO Trials and has eighteen first time titles with six different dogs.

He has been a seminar instructor for the Mid- South K9 Association, Metro Indianapolis K9, Vohn Licke Kennels, ADPDA and the Tennessee Department of Safety K9 division.


As of today, Dave has placed multiple dogs in Police/Military/Government service in the USA and abroad, has trained/certified numerous dog/handler teams in Narcotics since 2005, and trained more than 4000 dogs in the private and service dog sector since 1978.
